Best Indoor Plants for UAE Offices

GGREEN · 20 October 2026

Indoor plants can bring colour and greenery to reception areas, meeting rooms and workspaces. The best choices for a UAE office depend on available light, air-conditioning and who will look after them.

Before buying plants for an office in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, assess their intended positions and agree on a practical maintenance plan.

Start with the office conditions

Check how much daylight reaches each position throughout the day. A bright reception beside a window can have very different conditions from a meeting room deep inside the building.

Keep plants away from direct air-conditioning blasts and allow enough space for their eventual size. Avoid positions where pots or foliage obstruct walkways, doors or equipment.

ZZ plant for lower-light spaces

The ZZ plant, Zamioculcas zamiifolia, is an option for offices with lower light levels. Its glossy leaves give it a neat appearance, and it needs relatively little watering.

Lower light does not mean no light. Check the intended location before ordering, and avoid keeping the potting mix constantly wet.

Snake plant for upright greenery

Snake plants have upright leaves that can suit narrow spaces where a spreading plant would be inconvenient.

Use a container with drainage and allow the potting mix to dry between waterings. Avoid treating a snake plant like a thirsty flowering plant: frequent watering can cause problems.

Spider plant for smaller displays

Spider plants can work on suitable shelves or in smaller office displays. They prefer bright, indirect light.

Allow room for their arching leaves and trailing plantlets. Position them securely, away from computers and electrical equipment where watering spills could cause damage.

Palms for brighter reception areas

An indoor palm can provide a larger feature where there is sufficient space and suitable light. Ask your supplier to recommend a species for the actual location rather than choosing by height alone.

Palms generally require more attention to watering than drought-tolerant options such as snake plants. Confirm the care requirements before installation.

Choose practical pots

Decorative pots should suit both the interior and the care routine.

Confirm how excess water will drain or be removed. Protect furniture and flooring, and choose stable containers for larger plants.

Ask for the plant height and pot dimensions separately when comparing quotations. A photograph alone may not show the overall size accurately.

Agree on a maintenance routine

Assign responsibility for checking moisture, watering, removing damaged leaves and inspecting for pests. Avoid having several people water the same plants without coordination.

Keep a simple record of care and any problems. Review plant positions if growth becomes weak or foliage deteriorates.

For a supply or rental arrangement, confirm whether maintenance visits and plant replacements are included, separately charged or excluded.

Do office plants clean the air?

Choose plants for their appearance and the greenery they bring to the workplace. Do not treat a few decorative plants as a replacement for ventilation, appropriate filtration or controlling sources of indoor pollution.

If staff report air-quality concerns, involve the building’s facilities team rather than relying on additional plants.

Frequently asked questions

Which office plants need relatively little watering?

ZZ plants and snake plants are options to consider. Their watering needs still depend on light, potting mix and indoor conditions.

Can plants survive in a room without windows?

Plants still need suitable light. Have the location assessed; dedicated plant lighting may be necessary where daylight is insufficient.

Should an office buy or rent plants?

Compare the full scope of each option. Buying gives you ownership, while rental may suit temporary requirements or a managed arrangement. Confirm maintenance, replacement and collection terms in writing.

What information should we send for a quotation?

Share your office location, photos of the proposed positions, approximate plant sizes, preferred pot finishes and whether you need supply or rental.
